Tyndall Air Force Base encompasses nearly 29,000 acres in the southeastern part of the County, and is home to approximately 5000 active duty members. The base has two marinas, horse stables, a beautiful golf course, swimming pools, a youth center with ball fields a collocated club for officer’s, enlisted, and retirees. Tyndall also hosts a 12 lane bowling alley, paintball field plus in my opinion – truly the most beautiful beaches on the gulf coast.
Tyndall AFB is a training base. From it’s first class in December 1941 to today, one thing has held constant – the training of foreign students. The first foreign students were French Air Force. Today many country’s send their best and brightest to attend weapons controller training. The most famous student to date has to have been Clark Gable, who was a student at Tyndall in 1943
